From spare bedroom to global imaging company
More than 25 years ago, mobile phones were rapidly evolving into powerful multimedia devices. As compact digital camera modules became a standard feature, a new set of engineering challenges emerged around camera integration, image processing, and the objective evaluation of digital image quality.
Image Quality Labs founder, Jason Cope, had already spent 16 years in the mobile and smartphone industry designing and integrating camera modules, optimizing imaging systems, and assessing and tuning image quality. Recognizing the need for specialized expertise in these areas, he founded Image Quality Labs to help technology companies develop better-performing imaging products.
Image Quality Labs initially focused on independent product testing, image quality benchmarking, and laboratory equipment. As customer needs expanded, so did the company’s capabilities. Over time, Image Quality Labs grew into a broader imaging technology company supporting camera module development, embedded camera integration, MIPI driver development, ISP tuning, image quality validation, and imaging products.
Today, Image Quality Labs works with leading technology companies around the world and offers both custom and off-the-shelf camera modules, engineering services, image quality solutions, and flexible U.S. and offshore manufacturing options. Our focus remains the same as when the company began: solving complex imaging challenges and helping customers bring higher-performing camera and vision products to market.

Image Quality Labs is located in Durham, NC, known as the Bull City, the City of Medicine, the Tastiest Town in the South, and the Startup Capital of the South. Durham, adjacent to Research Triangle Park — a major hub for technology, engineering, life sciences, and advanced research.
We are within a 20 mile radius of three top universities in the area; NC State, Duke, and UNC. These schools all boast national ranking medical and engineering programs allowing for a local talent pool of engineers and scientists.
This location gives us access to world-class technical talent and provides a strong foundation for our expanding camera engineering, product development, image quality, and U.S.-based manufacturing capabilities.
